Mission Statement

The WGLN believes evaluation should be conducted not only to understand if projects work, but also to improve the way projects work. The WGLN also understands that different researchers have different needs when it comes to evaluating their projects. In order for evaluation to be of any use, the format and content of evaluation support must make a connection to the unique nature of a given project. The evaluation office is designed to support WGLN grantees in consistent, ongoing collection and analysis of information for use in deciding how and why their project is succeeding.

How

• By holding workshops for WGLN project staff on program evaluation;
• By maintaining a repository of evaluation plans, instruments for WGLN project staff;
• Through support of the use of the research-based methods for enhancing project performance;
• Through dissemination of evaluation capacity-building materials via print and electronic media; and

Goals

• Reduce barriers to evaluation for WGLN principal investigators and their teams by providing practical, useful and usable tools, techniques and training in program evaluation.
• Foster a culture of inquiry within projects around questions central to WGLN's mission and goals.
• Provide service to the field of evaluation and its
  application to the fields of learning technology
  and learning science.
